Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is perhaps the number one disease in the urban population of the world. It is medically known as Diabetes Mellitus and is primary of two types, type 1 and type 2. Diabetes occurs when there is excessive sugar in the blood. Any food that we eat is first broken down into simple sugar or glucose matter.

This matter is more easily absorbed by our body to generate energy from. But we may not need all the sugar that is produced. This is where the role of a special substance called insulin is important. The pancreas produces insulin for sugar control. Insulin absorbs and regulates the circulation of sugar in the blood at any given time. Diabetes may occur in our body due to two different issues.

The first can happen when not enough insulin or no insulin is being produced by the body. And the second issue can take place when the body produces insulin but is not able to utilise it effectively in order to control blood sugar. Both these problems can be very serious if not treated in time. The problem with this disease is that it can lead to many other medical conditions as well.

Diabetes is known to be a hereditary disorder as well as a lifestyle disease. Sedentary routines and poor dietary habits are one of the leading causes of diabetes mellitus of both types. It is also common in pregnant women but it usually subsides after delivery on its own. It is important to be aware of basic information about diabetes.
