Sore throat is very common in winters and during weather changes but it can happen anytime of the year. It is very uncomfortable and painful and renders the patient unable to speak and swallow when severe and hence can be very irritating. It takes almost a week to cure sore throat if not treated properly, and can also lead to fever and other diseases. Here are eight easy ways to get relief in case you have a sore throat.
Ways to Get Relief for Sore Throat
Salt water gargle is a very effective remedy which provides relief for sore throat. Acting as a mild antiseptic, salt helps to clear phlegm by drawing water out of mucous membranes in the throat. Mix half a teaspoon of common salt in a glass of warm water and gargle. Be sure to spit the water out and not swallow it as salt water, when swallowed, induces vomiting. Gargle as you can as much but three to four times a day is a must.
Do Not Talk Much and Rest
Try not to speak much and rest as much as you can. Not talking will give rest to the muscles in the throat and the throat will not pain much. Shouting when having a sore throat is the worst thing you can do to your throat.
Use some throat spray. Throat sprays can be used anywhere and anytime. Many throat sprays are available at the chemist’s but throat sprays with sage work well.
Holy Basil Water
Boil some water with holy basil and drink it as you would drink plain water. Add a pinch of turmeric powder to a glass of Holy Basil water for added benefit. Remember the water should be warm and not cold.
Drink Lots of Warm Water
Drink lots of warm water and other warm fluids including hot soups. Warm and hot drinks soothe the soreness in the throat and also prevent the throat from becoming dry. Chicken soup is very effective. Avoid cold drinks and other dairy products.
Azithromycin (Azithrocin) is an antibiotic which can cure sore throat very quickly. As is advised b most physicians, you can take 500mg pill of Azithromycin once a day for three days and your sour throat will vanish. You will start seeing the effects from the first doze itself.
Drink Hot Black Tea with Ginger
Hot black tea with ginger also gives relief to a very great extent. Add a few drops of lemon as it will help to remove mucous from the throat. A pinch of black pepper and cinnamon powder can also be added to enhance the effect as well as the taste.
Humidifier or Vaporizer
Dry air irritates sore throat so make sure the air in your room is moist. Run a humidifier or a cool cool-mist vaporizer in your room. It will add moisture to the air and help the air from drying out. This in turn will keep the lining of your throat moisturized and it will not become too dry. Place a bowl of water on the radiator or heating vent also works well if you don’t have a vaporizer or a humidifier.
