Recognize and Avoid
If you are allergic to anything, you tend to cough. Therefore the first thing to get relief from dry cough is to stay away from those things which give you dry coughs. They can be dust mites, eatables, pet dander or any strong odor. Recognize what makes you cough and avoid it as much as possible.
Pholcodine and dextromethorphan are used to suppress the cough reflex of dry coughs. Over the counter cough syrups are easily available for mild cough. Try using such cough syrups and suppressants.
Lemon and Honey Drink
Honey and lemons are commonly used as ingredients in the home remedy for cough because of their strong antibacterial properties. Mix a table spoon of honey and lemon juice in warm water and drink it to get some relief from dry cough. Herbal tea added to lemon and honey drink enhances its efficiency to ease dry cough.
Drink Plenty of Fluids
Coughs can be caused by dryness in the air. Drink lots of fluid and water to moisten your throat. Avoid anything including drinks that contain caffeine. Caffeine is dehydrating and also causes nervousness.
Use a Vaporizer
Use a humidifier or a vaporizer while sleeping. Humidifier or a vaporizer will add moisture to the dry air in your room and hence lessen coughing.

Boil around a liter of water in a vessel with a wide mouth until it produces a lot of steam. Take 2 tablespoons of fresh thyme into a glass of hot water.Strain out the herb after allowing it to infuse for 5 minutes. Add honey and drink. You can also use dried thyme or ready made thyme tea available at stores.
