The normal duration for monthly menses is 3 to 7 days which occurs over a monthly menstrual cycle of 21 to 35 days. However, early frequent period or delayed infrequent period may occur as irregularities in menstrual cycle usually because of hormonal changes. The occurrence of menses every 15-20 days is called metrorrhagea whereas occurrence of periods at the delay of more than 35 days is termed Oligomenorrhea.
The breakthrough bleeding and delayed bleeding can be a painful and discomforting disorder and it depends upon the progesterone and estrogen levels in a female’s body. Some natural remedies of correcting irregular cycles are given below:
Abnormal Menstrual Cycle Remedies
The herb parsley is known for benefitting women in their reproductive health and monthly menstruation cycle irregularities. Drinking parsley juice daily is an efficient way to restore normalcy into your period regime. Another useful way could be consuming parsley in form of tea.
This tea could be prepared from either fresh or dry parsley leaves. Or else, Parsley leaves can be boiled in water, and this water can be drunk three to four times a day. This herb works wonderfully well to normalize the irregularities in a woman’s period cycle if taken regularly.
Agnus Castus Or Vitex Or Chasteberry
The regular intake of the Vitex herb efficiently reduces all abnormal period problems in women. It regulates the timing at which period occurs during each cycle. The mechanism on which it works is that it boosts the operation of the pituitary gland which leads to release of hormones that regulate the working of ovaries.
This in turn, restores normal hormone levels and prevents irregular periods. In case of more prolactin levels, ovulation activity may be subdued leading to period problems. Agnus Castus is effective in those cases too.
Antioxidants include Vitamin A, C, E and the element selenium. They are regarded as important for regulating periods in women as they do not allow the cells to undergo mutation or abnormal changes.
Selenium and Vitamin C are very useful remedies in case of tumors resulting in abnormal periods. Some natural antioxidant foods are cloves, cinnamon, oregano, turmeric and garden sage. They also prevent thickening of uterine walls and prolonged periods.
Saffron works well on female reproductive system and maintains normal hormone levels. In case of period irregularities, one can drink saffron (kesar) solution or kesar milk. One teaspoon of saffron should be added to half a cup of water and then steeped to reduce the quantity to one tablespoon.
This decoction can be taken along with water per day through three dosages. Two or three days of using this remedy proves helpful.
The phytoestrogen content in the diet of women should be high as it helps in checking oestrogen. Major phytoestrogen sources are soya, nuts and seeds. Vitamin A, B, C as well as zinc provide for reproductive health and must be taken sufficiently in forms of wholegrains, nuts and fruits.
Omega 3 fatty acids ensure regularity in menses for women and do not cause side effects even when there is no hormonal imbalance. The richest sources of omega 3 acids are flaxseeds and the oil derived from it. Leafy vegetables consumption ensures sufficient iron levels and lowers the occurrence possibility of anemia.
