Foot fungus or athlete’s foot is an extremely common place disease. While it is spread most easily via locker rooms which have the perfect environment for the fungus to grow uninhibited, there are other places also where you can catch it. The fungus which causes athlete’s foot is called tinea pedis. Like most other fungus, moist and damp places are suitable for its growth.
The severity of the fungus varies from mild to extreme and while severe foot fungus requires medical attention most mild ones can be easily treated in your home itself. Plenty of home remedies are available to treat this problem. Here are a few of them.
Home Remedies For Foot Fungus
Garlic is one of the best anti-bacterial agents. The best way to use its magic is to put fresh cloves in your shoes before wearing them. This works wonders in treating your athlete’s foot.
Garlic aggravates your immune system and helps you fight off fungus from within. Eating more of raw garlic is also recommended while treating foot fungus.
Maintain good foot hygiene and keep your foot completely dry at all times. Moisture is imperative for the fungus to grow and spread. If you cut off its lifeline, the fungus is bound to die out. Do not wear the same socks twice without washing it first. After you’ve had a bath dry your feet well. Use a hair dryer to dry the area beneath your toenails and between your toes.
These are the areas where moisture remains accumulated and fungus is bound to appear. Clean your bath and shower with Tylenol or some other anti-bacterial agent after taking your bath, to prevent the foot fungus from spreading on to other people.
Olive Leaf Extracts
Olive trees produce a lot of antibiotic substances to ward off bacteria and fungus. Thus olive leaf extracts help a lot in treating foot fungus. You can use the extract available in markets or get olive leaves and crush them to take out their extract, yourself. Applying this extract on the foot helps remove the fungus quickly. However be sure to dry your foot completely when you wash off this extract.
For this treatment you need to dissolve 6 aspirins in half cup of alcohol which is the rubbing kind. Now apply this mixture on your foot. Do this at least three times a day and continue doing that till your foot fungus is completely gone.
Tea Tree Oil Soak
This is the easiest way of treating foot fungus. All that you need to do is add around 40 to 45 drops of tea tree oil in half a bucket of water and soak your feet in it for around ten minutes.
The skin of your feet will feel greatly soothed. Make sure that you dry your feet completely afterward, not leaving any moisture for the fungus to grow on. If need be use a hair dryer to dry your foot. Also rub some tea tree oil upon the affected area afterwards.
Drinking green tea or other herbal tea is also helpful. Tea flushes out excess toxins form our body and strengthens our immune system. The latter helps us fight fungus from within.
