How To Use After Care Creams For Breast Augmentation

By on September 5, 2011

Every woman who has done a breast augmentation will have to deal with scars around the areola where the incision is made. With time and if left without care, the scars become permanent.

However, with proper treatment and care, the scars remain almost invisible and do not mar the entire beauty of your breast. There are surgical and non surgical methods that can be adopted for removing the peri areolar scar.

Scars can also be under your armpits, around the nipples or in the navel, depending on the surgical option chosen. Whichever area the scar is located, here are some natural ways by which the scar formation can be reduced considerably and the healing process made faster.

1. Creams For Scar Treatment

There are many specialised creams that can be used on the scar after the incision has healed. These creams reduce the scarring to a minimum and prevent keloid scar formation and other permanent damage. Get a good scar treatment cream and gently massage on the scar until the cream is fully absorbed into the skin.

This must strictly be done only after the open wound is completely healed. This can be done two times a day or as directed in the label. Make sure that you massage the scar at least fifteen minutes every day with the cream.

2. Silicone Sheets

Silicone sheets are known to reduce the scar considerably and hence can be used for treating the scars. Wash the scarred area and pat dry. Place the silicone sheet directly on the scar before you wear your undergarments. Silicone sheets come with self adhesives and hence very convenient for use.

Press gently after placement so that the adhesive sticks firmly on to the skin. The downward pressure exerted by the silicone sheet will help in minimising the scar formation on the surface.

Silicone sheets will also help the healing process as it protects the scarred tissue from rubbing against the rough material of the clothes, thereby extending the healing time.

Silicone sheets can be left on for the full day and removed before sleeping. Wash the area thoroughly after removing the silicone sheet and apply the scar treatment gel or cream and massage for 15 minutes.

Care After Breast Augmentation

Care must be taken to keep the area dry and clean during the entire treatment period. Dry skin and tissues will gather on the surface and lead to keloid scars and infections if not cleaned properly. Scar reduction gels can be obtained from the chemist shop or through your doctor. The gel has to be left on at least for 2 hours before you apply the silicone sheets.

Since creams and gels can be absorbed by the clothes that you wear, you can use a bandage after applying the cream or the gel. This will keep the cream in place and prevent getting absorbed into the clothes.

Remember not to use the scar reduction cream and the adhesive together as it can irritate the skin and cause infections, causing the healing process to slow down and the scar to worsen.
