Hormone fluctuations in a woman’s body can be extremely distressing for women as it not only leads to physical distress, but mental problems as well. A woman’s body goes through a number of hormone fluctuations all throughout her life.
While some are temporary instances like at the time of menstruation, pregnancy and post pregnancy, there are other changes that are permanent and requires treatment to combat health, behavioural and developmental problems in women.
Most hormone problems in women can be treated and set right with medication. However, all women must be made to recognise the symptoms and seek treatment without wasting time as it can cause serious damages to the body and mind.
Estrogen And Progesterone
Estrogen plays a vital role in woman’s health al throughput her life. Being a major sex hormone, estrogen fluctuation can led to sexual dysfunction and loss of sexual interest in women. Vaginal dryness and many other symptoms like lack of energy, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia etc. are common complaints faced by women during menopause as a result of estrogen fluctuation in the body. Vaginal dryness can cause pain during sexual intercourse and lack of sexual interest.
Estrogen plays an important role in the sexual development of a female and also in regulating her menstrual cycle. Teenagers who are on the road to puberty may face behavioural problems as a result of estrogen hormone fluctuation. This can range from depression, mood disorders etc.
Just as important as estrogen in the body, the balance of progesterone and estrogen in a woman’s body is also very important for general health. Lack of progesterone-estrogen balance will lead to health problems like fibrocystic breast lumps, bloating of the stomach, PMS, allergic reactions, depression, headaches and anxiety disorders, low libido etc.
Physical Problems Associated With Hormone Imbalance
Hormone fluctuations can cause lot of bodily problems for women. One of the most common problems faced by women is severe hair loss. Weight gain is another problem that is connected to thyroid hormone dysfunction. Severe facial hair growth and fibrocystic breast disease too are disorders that are related to hormone problems in women.
During the developmental stage of a female, adequate hormones in her body will ensure that she grows well in height, weight and the breasts and hips are adequately formed for copulation and conception. Lack of sufficient hormones will lead to growth deformities in all these areas.
Other problems that may be serious enough to warrant a visit to the doctor are osteoporosis, recurrent UTIs, endometriosis, fibroids, cysts in the ovaries etc. Heavy menstruation, low immune system response and thyroid problems too surface along with infertility in some cases.
Fortunately, hormone imbalances can be treated adequately with the administration of synthetic or naturally occurring hormones and hormone therapy. Many associated disorders related to menstruation, sexual and fertility problems are treated with oral contraceptive pills which contain hormones. Certain cases like fibroids in the cysts and fibrocystic breast lumps might require surgical intervention as well if women do not respond to hormone therapy.
