Precautions To Be Taken After The Treatment For Uterine Fibroids
Pelvic tumors like uterine fibroids are a common tumor in women, which occurs in 30% of the women who are above 35 years of age.
Although these fibroids are non-cancerous, there may be symptoms like anemia due to excessive bleeding, pressure and pain in the abdomen and there may be obstruction in the bowel or urinary tract. The other treatment for uterine fibroids is surgery known as hysterectomy and myomectomy. In hysterectomy, the uterus is removed completely without the removal of ovaries. Pregnancy is no longer possible after hysterectomy.
Whereas in myomectomy, the fibroid is removed without disturbing the uterus and the reproductive potentials are preserved. It can also be done through a laparoscope depending upon the size and location of the fibroid.
Precautions To Be Taken After Uterine Fibroids Treatment
After the treatment for uterine fibroids, patient should take certain precautions. The patient can ask her family member or friend to help for the initial days at home soon after discharge from the hospital and follow the given precautions at home:
After 1 or 2 days of surgery, the patient has medicine for nausea and painkillers to soothe his pain. As per doctor’s advice the patient should get up and walk within a day-after operation in order to avoid pneumonia and reduce the risk of the blood clot in the operated area.
Slow walking, deep breathing exercise helps in relieving gas pains, which is usual for few days after surgery. You should hold a pillow over the abdominal where the surgery was conducted while coughing, as it may cause pain. You can cross your legs if there is any vaginal surgery.
Do not lift any heavy objects, climb stairs, drive any vehicle and do not take baths. Mood swings are common after surgery due to loss of loss of reproductive capacity, especially when the ovaries are removed. Try to cope with the situation.
Always discuss with your doctor about any exercise programs are fixed. Even after healing of the wound, there is overall weakness and mostly women may feel well after few days or some women take almost a year, and it depends upon the women’s body capacity.
