While most pregnant women do experience the usual signs of pregnancy like bloating, nausea, vomiting and water retention at 8 weeks, there are some who experience some other unusual signs of pregnancy during this period. Here are some of them.
Signs Of Pregnancy At 8 Weeks
Runny Nose
Most pregnant women during the 8th week experience flu like symptoms such as a runny nose without any obvious cause. This is because of the increased estrogen levels circulating in the body that causes swelling of the mucous membranes throughout the body including the nose. Some women also experience nasal congestion in the form of a stuffy nose, wherein the nose gets blocked.
Fascinating And Vivid Dreams

Pregnant women tend to dream a lot and many of their dreams appear to be surreal and vivid. This again related to the surge in hormones in the first trimester and an increase in the nerve like impulses in the brain. Most women dream about their babies while some dream about issues that are affecting them at a subconscious level.
Achy Limbs And pelvic Pain
The muscles of the buttocks, hips and pelvic region cramp and become sore. This can start as early as the first trimester, around week 8 and go on until the end of the pregnancy. Achy limbs are very common in pregnancy due to the baby’s weight and also because of increased water retention.
Dizziness And Light-Headedness

The woman may also experience a feeling of dizziness and light-headedness. This is because of the increased volume of blood in the body and a sudden rush of this blood to the brain. Pregnancy fatigue may also exacerbate the feeling of light-headedness.
Nose Bleeds And Sore Gums
During the 8 week, some women experience occasional bleeding from their gums and nose especially while brushing the teeth. This is also because of the swelling of the mucous membranes, which may cause the nose to bleed. Due to an increase in progesterone, gums become sensitive to bacteria in plaque and this results in bleeding gums.
Strange Metallic Taste In The Mouth

Sensitivity To Smell
Certain women are increasingly put off by certain odours during their pregnancy. So the smell of roasted cumin that they enjoyed before may suddenly seem very offensive. Some women are also put off by the smell of garlic. These smells can also bring on a full-blown episode of nausea or vomiting. This is common in the first trimester and disappears by the end of the second trimester.
Hot Flashes

A sudden feeling of heat in the body along with sweating and breathlessness may occur in some pregnant women. This is also because of the surge in hormones and this symptom is seen in women who are in their second month and final trimester of pregnancy. It may cause sleeplessness at night but the symptoms blessedly disappear by the time the baby is delivered.
Itching
Another uncommon symptom of pregnancy is uncontrollable itching on the legs and hips. This could indicate liver malfunctioning but at times, it occurs due to no apparent reason. The skin around the itchy area also darkens. The symptom diminishes after delivery.
