Body acne is mostly caused due to ill hygiene. However, this is not the only reason for getting body acne. Factors like hormone problems and genetic predisposition too can cause body acne. It can be a very disturbing condition as it is mostly evident on visible areas like the face, back and chest.
Acne is caused when the pores are clogged with dirt and sweat and infection and bacterial action sets in. Women with oily skin are more at risk of developing body acne. It is also very common among adolescents, at the time of puberty when hormone changes occur in the body. With a bit of care and hygiene at home, you can easily treat this condition. For some acne conditions, medical intervention is required.
Ways To Clear Body Acne
Taking a shower at least once a day will help keep the oiliness and dirt at bay that can lead to clogging of pores. It will also prevent bacterial build up on the skin which can settle on the pores and cause infection. It is advised to use a body wash meant for acne such as Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash.
Squeeze out adequate amounts into your hands and using a scrub, rub the body wash on the skin, taking care not to rub too hard. It is also important to shower after exercising or sweating profusely as it can lead to blocking of pores and resultant body acne. You can use an apricot scrub for exfoliation purpose so that the dead skin cells do not remain on the skin surface.
Application Of Benzoyl Peroxide
Once you have taken a shower, allow the skin to dry well before you apply the acne medication. Benzoyl peroxide helps in removing the bacteria that could be trapped in the pores. Apply a thin layer of medication with at least 10% concentration of benzoyl peroxide on the acne affected skin. Apply once a day and check for any reactions like redness, pain or dryness of the skin. In such cases the product must be discontinued.

When you have acne prone skin, it is important to wear a sunscreen lotion at all times when you are out in the sun. This becomes even more important when you are using benzoyl peroxide or other acne treatment medications. These medications make the skin very sensitive to sun and can aggravate the problem.
Avoid Popping Acne
Acne breakouts must never be popped as the infection can spread to other areas of the skin and the skin will get irritated as well. If you happen to pop an acne breakout, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water and wash your hands as well to prevent the bacteria from attacking other parts of the skin.
Sometimes, acne formations can be very difficult to remove even after care at home. In such cases, it helps if you consult a dermatologist. A dermatologist will help you assess the situation and suggest better ways to keep your skin acne free. Prescription medication may be required for treatment and your dermatologist might also suggest lifestyle changes that can keep further breakouts under control.
