A uterine fibroid is a non cancerous tumor which originates from the smooth muscle layer of the uterus. They are numerous in number and if they are too many than that condition is known as diffuse uterine leiomymatosis.This disease is also known by some other names like uterine leimyoma,myoma,fibromyoma and fibroleimyoma.
This problem usually occurs in females during their middle and later reproductive years. Most of the fibroids show no symptoms initially but they are observed after a regular pelvic examination. Uterine fibroid symptoms keep on developing every month and year. Most of the women suffer from mild symptoms.
The two most common symptoms of uterine tumor are pain and heavy menstrual bleeding. The bowel movements become irregular and painful. The pressure on the rectum leads to constipation problem.

The fibroids in the uterus make it difficult to conceive as the sperm cannot stay in the fallopian tubes longer. Even if pregnancy occurs then problems like placental abruption ,premature labor and miscarriage occurs.
The body weight increase rapidly and the size of the women changes and a major change is observed in the waist and abdominal contour which creates a need for change in clothing size. The body looks bulky.
Some women do not have any symptoms at all even though they have fibroids in the uterus. This is because the fibroids are very small in size and they don’t interfere with the normal functioning of the body. They are examined with the help of ultrasound and endometrial biopsy. If you are overweight and obese then ultrasound will not give clear results. If the women has passed through the menopause then fibroids do not show any symptoms as they have shrunk.
