Diabetes is becoming the most common problem around the world. In medical terms it is known as Diabetes Mellitus. It occurs when pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin in the body and there is an increase in blood sugar level in the body. The normal level of blood sugar in the body varies between 80-140 per 100 ml in fasting state.
Diabetes is caused due to lack of physical activity, obesity, a rich diet and it also runs in the family thus can be considered hereditary. Diabetes can affect your organs like eyes, kidneys, nerves, bones and blood vessels if the blood sugar level is not maintained.
You can treat diabetes with herbal remedies. These useful herbs are easily available in your kitchen or you can procure them from the market.
Herbal Remedies For Diabetes
Wheat grass juice is extremely beneficial for treating diabetes. Wheat grass can be grown at home in small pots. Take two tablespoon of wheat grass juice in the morning for at least 2 months to bring down your blood sugar level.
Take 2 cloves of garlic first thing in morning with half a glass of warm water. It helps to keep blood sugar level under control.
Amalaki Or Amla
Extract the juice of two amla and dilute it in half a glass of water. It is a useful remedy for diabetes. To neutralise the bitterness of the juice you may add 1 tea spoon honey to it.
Fenugreek is a magic potion for treating diabetes. You can consume it in various forms such as you can make fenugreek sprouts and chew it with warm water.
Make fenugreek powder and mix 1/2 teaspoon powder with any vegetable and eat it. Mix fresh fenugreek with the dough to make chapattis. Fenugreek will retain its medicinal value whatever way you eat it.
Indian Plum (Jamun)
Diabetic patient should eat jamun every day. When fresh jamun is not available you can use the powder of jamun seeds to cure diabetes. Take ½ tea spoon jamun powder with water twice a day for at least 40 days.
Powder of amalaki, turmeric and fenugreek Make a mixture with equal amount of amalaki powder, turmeric powder and fenugreek powder. Tale ½ tea spoon of this mixture with your meals twice a day to maintain blood sugar level.
Fresh mango leaves are useful for treating diabetes. Chew 5-6 mango leaves in morning for 10 minutes and spit the pulp out while swallowing the juice.
Neem has various medicinal properties. Its fruit and leaves are useful remedies for diabetes. Make a decoction with 5-6 leaves of neem and boil them in one glass of water till it is reduced to half. Cool it and drink it once a day.
You may add a little amount of honey if you find it too bitter. Make powder with dried neem fruits (nimboli). Take ½ tea spoon of this powder with water in morning.
Herbal remedies are very effective no doubt, but they may cause side effects. It is advisable to consult an expert before using any of the above mentioned herbal remedies.
