Goiter is kind of an excessive thyroid gland, which becomes visible through the skin. It is usually found in the neck area and can be rather daunting and discomforting, especially for women. Lack of iodine in the diet is one of the most common causes for goiter. Thankfully, you can actually get rid of it using some herbal remedies. It may take time to show results, but you will notice visible changes and get rid of goiter for good.
This is like a scurvy grass that has rich iodine content. Hence, it makes up for the lack of iodine. It also contains other minerals like sulfur and germanium that combat this problem. Crush the watercress into a paste and then apply the same on the neck. After 20 minutes, you can wash it off and pat dry.
Dandelion helps in dealing with different forms of thyroid side effects, especially goiter. It contains elements that reduce the swelling and soothe the area. You can use dandelion leaves with some clarified butter. Mix crushed and boiled dandelion leaves with a spoon of clarified butter. Then heat it up a bit and apply on the neck area. Wash off after half an hour.
The leaves of sorrel are also called spinach dock. These are edible leaves and can be used externally too for treating goiter. You can increase consumption of these leaves in your food. Crush these leaves to a paste form and then add some olive oil. Heat it up lightly and apply on the affected area.
This is a herb that is mostly found in India and is known for treating different kinds of problems related to thyroid. You can consume the same and also apply the bark. The ideal treatment for this would be mixing 2 spoons of the bark powder with 1/2 spoon ginger and a cup of water. Then heat up the mixture and bring to a boil. Then strain it once it becomes dense and drink half before breakfast and remaining before evening meal.
Raw garlic is perhaps the best herbal remedy for getting rid of the swelling in this area. You can ideally chew on the garlic cloves in the morning to balance thyroid. If you want, you can also heat up the garlic with some mustard oil and then apply on the area. Cover the area for a while before washing it off or pat drying it.
2-3 cups of green tea in a day are highly suggested for curing this problem. Ideally you should make sure that you get herbal green tea, which fights free radicals along with curbing the problem of goiter. You can also apply tea bags on the area to reduce the inflammation.
Another solution to curb the problem of goiter would be adding more of kelp seaweed to your diet. This kelp is actually used in Japanese foods too, which is the main reason that Japanese don’t suffer much from thyroid issues.
Bugleweed or Lycopus virginicus herb is found in North America. The herb is rich in different kinds of phenolic acids along flavonoids and tannins that help to curb the problem of goiter. Dried bugleweed herb tea can be made by mixing 1 spoon of the powder in some hot water. Drink at least twice a day.
Lemon Balm Tea
Lemon balm is also found in the mint family. It promotes good health and fights different kinds of diseases. In fact, lemon balm tea is ideal for healing the problem of goiter. Take about two spoons of the herb and boil in a cup of hot water. You can also add some honey to it for taste. Drink 2-3 times a day.
This is a quick and sure shot way of dealing with the different kinds of symptoms of goiter. Ideally, this herb is rich in many nutrients that strikes the balance of curing goiter. Boil 1 spoon of motherwort tea in some hot water. Then add 2-3 spoons of honey to the same. Drink this hot tea at least twice a day.
It has been seen that consuming more of turmeric in the diet and also applying hot turmeric paste on the glands provides respite. Turmeric helps in reducing inflammation and provides immunity boost. Have more of turmeric in your food, milk or even raw forms. Alternatively, apply a paste of hot water and turmeric on the area. Leave it overnight.
Drink more of ginger tea to strike a balance and reduce thyroid symptoms. For making ginger tea, boil some crushed ginger in hot water. Drink it whilst warm. You can also add some basil here with honey for respite.
