Who does not want to have a fit and lean body? An hour glass figure is every woman’s dream and a priced possession for those blessed with it. Be it a male or a female, fitness adds to the personality and is a great boon to health and longevity. Most of the people who deal with obesity issues are all the time looking for ways to achieve that magical weight but there aren’t many who want to work towards achieving a toned body at the same time. We are born unique as individuals and therefore, our body constitution is also unique which gives us varied physical features and mental traits. If we talk about the physical attributes possessed by each one of us, especially women, different kinds of body types have been defined such as pear shaped, apple shaped, hour glass etc. According to the specific body shape that each one of us possess, special workout routine needs to be formulated to achieve a balanced and super toned body. Here we will discuss about the exercise routine that can help people with naturally bulky calves to breathe a sigh of relief.
Stretch At Your Best
Stretching exercises are the best way to get leaner calves. Stretching pulls the calf muscles longitudinally, helping them to shrink their diameter, making them appear longer and hence, leaner. There are various forms of leg stretching exercises which can be performed to give a good stretch to your calf muscles. A simple way to achieve a good calf stretch is by bending down with your hand stretched out in order to touch your toes. Keep your abdominal muscles sucked in all the time to avoid any kind of injury to the back muscles. The knees should remain locked and never bend to allow for maximum stretching of the calf muscles. Repeat this exercise for 10 -15 times every day.
Push That Wall
Another way to tone down big, round calves is by standing against a wall and pushing it with both the hands with one of the leg stretched back keeping the knees straight. The other leg can be bent forward to bring the thigh horizontal to the floor in an attempt to balance the body. Repeat this exercise for the other leg. The position should be held for 10 – 15 seconds, each side. A total of 10 repetitions each side will give great results.
Parvatasana – Downward Facing Dog
It is a great yoga stance that is a part of the warm up routine of many Yoga forms. Lie down flat on the floor on your abdomen. Now slowly raise your body up from the floor on the palms of your hands and the toes, keeping the knees locked, pushing the hips upwards at the same time. This will give you an inverted V shaped position. Though difficult to achieve and hold at the same time, with practice it can be a great exercise to stretch the entire body muscles and not just the calves. Hold the position for 20 -30 seconds. It is a great exercise to burn the fat around the calves.
Squat On Your Toes
Squatting is my personal favourite and one of the best and simplest exercises to achieve great toned legs. It has many a variations which allow you to work on the specific muscles of the legs and tone them. In order to tone down calf muscles, start by simple squatting keeping the upper body straight and perpendicular to the floor. Now, when you go down in a squat, bring all your body weight on your toes. Alternately, you can do this by lifting one foot on the toes at a time while squatting. Start with 10 squats per day and slowly increase as per your comfort. Toe squats can give you a great leg workout with calves that are as fit as a fiddle.
Jump rope is a tried and tested method that gives you a great cardio workout apart from burning the fat around calf muscles at a swift rate. All you need is a jump rope that is appropriate for your height. Half the length of the rope should be the same as the distance between your toes and your shoulders (for beginners). Start by skipping for around 30 seconds at a time. You can do this exercise everyday to give a good rigorous workout to your calf muscles. It is fun workout that will surely take you back down the memory lane where skipping a rope was one of many fun ways to play in the garden. Who would have thought that the same game would help simplify our weight issues when we are all grown up?
