Sore throat is one of the commonest problems that visit us along with a host of accompanying symptoms like fever, cough, cold, flu and runny nose. To treat these diseases, we are in a mad rush to medical shops to procure antibiotics that can give us fast relief.

But, are we healed fast to become more susceptible to such episodes of sore throats and coughs? Many of us do not think about the bad implications of using antibiotics for every simple ailment that comes visiting once in a while. Some Natural Remedies For Sore Throat

1. Garlic

Garlic has wonderful medicinal properties that make it an antibacterial, antifungal and a blood thinning agent. The best way to get quickly out of the symptoms is to chew it down your throat and allow it to linger there for a few minutes before you swallow it.


It sounds a bit of a tough thing to achieve. You could just make an infusion by boiling some chopped garlic cloves with a cup of water and drinking this water 2-3 times a day. If this too is extremely unpleasant, pop a garlic capsule into your mouth.

2. A Combination Remedy

As we have always experienced, combination treatment always works better and helps attain better and faster relief due to the combined effort.

Peppercorns & Coriander Seeds

Take some peppercorns, a small piece of ginger root, some coriander powder or seeds and one tablespoon of honey. Add two cups of water to this and boil for about 10 minutes. Cool this infusion and drink two to three times a day.

3. Honey

The medicinal properties of honey are many and hence it must be a constant fixture in every kitchen. Honey can soothe a sore throat by keeping it moist and preventing the irritation that can crop up every now and then and makes you cough.


A teaspoon of honey can be taken just before you are off to bed to ease the pain and irritation. Take two tablespoons of honey and mix with a glass of warm water. This can be taken 2-3 times a day for fast relief from sore throat.

4. Salt Water

Salt has been known to heal sores and prevent the action of bacteria. Take a pan and warm some water in it. Add one teaspoon of salt and wait till the salt dilutes completely.

This water can be used for gargling the throat couple of times a day for fast relief from sore throat. Doing this for just two days is enough to remove all the disturbances in your throat.

5. Steaming

Steaming is one of the most effective ways to relieve a sore throat without allowing the symptoms to aggravate.


You can use a pot of boiling water for steaming or use the steamer in the bathroom for this purpose. Inhale and exhale deeply through your mouth so that the steam touches your sore throat. Continue for 10 minutes.
