Tonsillitis is way too common among adults as well as kids. Tonsillitis is the inflammation of the tonsils that are situated at the back of your throat. The pain could be so bad that it renders you incapable of eating or drinking anything properly.
As tonsils plays a great role in filtering the germs and dust particles that cause throat infection, it is important to set the inflammation and infection of tonsils right as soon as possible.
Recurrent infections of the tonsils could be detrimental to the health of the heart and kidneys and hence must surgically removed. There are quite a few home remedies that help in treating infection of the tonsils.
Natural Treatments For Tonsillitis
1. Salt Water
One of the simplest methods to get rid of tonsillitis is to gargle your throat with salt water. Take a glass of warm water and add a teaspoon of salt to it. Allow the salt water to remain in the throat for as much time as you can while you gargle.
The antibacterial properties of salt will help in removing the bacterial or viral action that has caused the tonsillitis. Continue gargling for 3-4 times a day and tonsillitis will be removed in a couple of days.
Ginger extract too can be used for gargling the throat for removing the soreness of the throat and also the pain and bacterial action. Take 1” piece of ginger and crush it to extract the juice from it.
Take warm water and add this extract to it. As honey is good for soothing an irritated and sore throat and healing it, add one tablespoon of honey as well to this. Hold the water in the throat for at least a minute or two while gargling.
Take an onion and crush it to remove the juice from it. Add the juice to a glass of warm water and use for gargling the throat. Again make sure that the water is held in the throat for maximum time before you spit it out.
Alternately, just chew on a slice of onion and swallow the juice slowly, allowing it to remain in the throat for a few minutes. This is better method as the onion juice is in concentrated form and its antibacterial action will be highest.
4. Holy Basil
Holy basil is very strong and anti bacterial in nature. Crush some holy basil or chew some holy basil in your mouth and drink it along with some warm milk and a teaspoon of honey.
Continue throughout the day to remove all the bacterial and viral action in the throat in a day or two.
Boil a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds and use this water for gargling your throat 2-3 times a day. Fenugreek too has good antibacterial qualities that can help in treating tonsillitis. This will also prevent the bad breath associated with tonsillitis.
6. Milk And Turmeric
This is a very popular remedy that is used for treating cough and sore throat. Take a teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it with some warm milk.
Consume this twice a day. Turmeric will help in removing the bacteria from the mouth and also in healing the sore throat effectively.
