These situations seem familiar and happen every now and then in every household.First degree burns or the mild burns and to some extent second degree burns can be treated at home. The more severe ones need immediate medical assistance. Following are some of the home remedies which will help you treat mild burns immediately and effectively.
Effective Ways To Treat Your Burns On Hands
1. Honey
One of the sweetest home remedies to treat your burns is honey. It successfully disinfects wounds and heals the burns. You can apply honey directly onto the burns. If you feel it is sticky, put few drops of honey on a gauze bandage and put it on the burned area directly. Change the bandage every three to four hours.
2. Rinse The Burn
The first and the foremost thing you should do when you get a burn is rinse. Hold your burned hand under cold running water for 10-15 minutes until the pain stops. If cold running water is not available, immerse your hand in cold water. The cool water lowers the skin temperature and reduces initial burning sensation. Never apply ice directly on the burn as it may damage the tissues further.
3. Milk
Yes, milk is very effective for treating your burn. Soak the burned area of your hand in milk for 15 minutes or so. For more effectiveness, immerse a clean cloth in milk and put it on your hand covering the burned portion. Repeat it every couple of hours. You get a lot of relief from pain.
4. Vinegar
One of the easily available ingredients in your kitchen is vinegar. Its astringent and antiseptic properties are very useful in treating burns. Take few spoons of vinegar and dilute it with equal quantity of water. First use this solution to wash the burned area, then soak a clean cloth in this solution and cover the burned area. Vinegar acts as a painkiller and soothes your skin. Keep changing the compress often.
5. Yogurt
Yogurt also acts effectively in treating burns. Apply a thick layer of plain yogurt onto the burned area on your hand and keep it for 10-15 minutes then rinse off with cool water. Repeat the process until the pain is gone and you feel better.
6. Aloe Vera
You should have to have an aloe vera plant in your garden or at the kitchen window; it is such a miracle plant. It has astringent, painkilling and tissue-healing properties, a perfect herb to treat first degree and minor burns. Slice off a fresh aloe vera leaf, take out the gel and apply directly onto your hand on the burned area after washing your hand of course. It gives a soothing effect and relieves any pain.
7. Egg White
Take the egg white from one or two eggs. After washing your burned hand, coat it with egg white and allow it dry. When it dries up, apply fresh layer of egg white. It fastens the healing process and prevents scarring also.
