Can Wearing Bra Lead To Breast Cancer

There have been a rising number of breast cancer occurrences among women in the past two decades. Several factors have been attributed to be the cause of breast cancer, of which wearing of bras is the most ambiguous one. Of late there has been lot of discussion regarding the link between wearing bras and breast cancer. There is a belief that wearing tight bras can constrict the blood flow and lymphatic fluid flow in the breasts that in turn can causes serious health conditions like breast cancer. There has been no scientific proof that links the use of bra with breast cancer. However various studies in this regard have suggested that women who prefer to be bra-less are at remarkably lower risks of breast cancer.

The main cause of the problem is wearing ill-fitting or tight-fitting bra. Wearing tighter bras can inhibit the lymph drainage that in turn hampers the elimination of toxins from the body and can lead to breast cancer. Also underwire bras made of metal can cause potential health hazards. Hence you must always wear properly fitted bras to support your breasts.

The results published by ‘Bra and Breast Cancer Study’ have made startling revelations after studying the history of breast cancer patients. It has been seen that most of the women with breast cancer have been wearing tighter bras for longer period of time than those who are free from this disease. The findings of these related studies also suggested that women wearing bra continually for 24 hours have 3 out of 4 chance of getting breast cancer. For women wearing bra for not more than 12 hours every day, but never to bed, the chances reduced to 1 out of 7. Women wearing bra for even less than 12 hours the risk was reduced to 1 out of 52. The chances of developing breast cancer are extremely low like 1 out of 168, for women who rarely wear bra.

As per the statistics, the co-relation between bras and breast cancer is almost three times more than the co-relation between cancer and cigarette smoking. The best way to avoid breast cancer is to stop wearing tight bras or if you can go bra-less!
