Excessive menstrual bleeding is a common problem faced by many women. A number of reasons can be there for this condition including life threatening conditions like cancer of the ovaries or cervix, adenomyosis, polyps etc.
Excessive menstrual bleeding can also be caused due to hormonal problems in women and uterine fibroids which become more aggressive during menstruation as a result of increased hormone action.
Ways To Relieve Excessive Menstrual Bleeding
When your bleeding is particularly intense, you may try coriander seeds as a possible natural cure for relieving the excess bleeding. Take one teaspoon of freshly ground coriander seeds and boil it with one quart of water.
Allow the infusion to boil in low flame until the water has reduced to half the quantity. Allow it to become warm and drink it with a teaspoon of honey or sugar for relief. This treatment can be continued for 4-5 times a day.
Banana flower is a powerful remedy that is used for treating heavy menstrual flow. The flower that is found at the top of a cluster of bananas is edible and used for preparing a tasty vegetable dish in many Asian countries.
Rich in naturally occurring progesterone, banana flower can be cooked and taken along with one cup of curd in order to increase the levels of progesterone in the body. This will immediately reduce heavy bleeding during menstruation.
Bark Of Ashoka Tree
Excessive menstrual bleeding can sometimes be caused due to big fibroid tumours that are lodged in the uterine wall. In such cases, the bark of Ashoka tree can be used for treating the bleeding. Take about twelve ounces of water and add ninety milligrams of Ashoka bark along with it. Add an ounce of milk as well along with this and boil it.
Continue boiling under a low flame until the infusion is reduced to about 1/4th of its original quantity. Take 3 doses of this infusion from the fourth day of menstruation until the bleeding subsides.
Herbs like Indian barbery and rough chaff are known to offer relief from excessive menstrual bleeding. Taking a dose of 13 to 25 g of Indian barbery is known to reduce the bleeding.
However, take the help of a herbalist for the right dosage. Take a cup of water and add about 15 mg of rough chaff into it. Allow it to steep for ten minutes and drink it when you have heavy bleeding during menstruation.
Seek Medical Help
If none of these remedies seem to reduce your bleeding and if your feel faint and if the bleeding is very profuse where you have soaked 3-4 pads in a matter of hours, it is best to seek medical help immediately as profuse loss of blood can lead to dizziness, low blood pressure, shock and in rare cases death if the condition is very serious.
