The main characteristic of menstruation is that monthly vaginal discharge of blood occurs from the uterine lining of the uterus and pain occurs in the lower abdomen. The regular proactive of yoga gives relief from pain during menstruation and reduces the stress and anxiousness in a female’s life.
Each and every woman has a different experience of her period as some feels intense pain in stomach while some feels nauseated. This is the most uncomfortable time of every month. If any women is trying to get pregnant then an occurrence of periods shows disappointment and for those who want to avoid pregnancy, menstruation gives mental and physical relief.
Asanas To Do During Menstruation
During menstruation, the lower body of a female face heavy bleeding so seating poses should be done only. Cobbler’s pose opens up the pelvic region.
Forward bending over a bolster and other folded blankets helps to give relief from cramps in menstruation.
Head To Knee Pose
In head to knee pose, you have to extend your right leg. Now center the torso on the right leg and roll it forward. Again do the badda konasana to do again the other side of the body.
In a seated straddle, you have to open both your legs wide and hold your hand downwards. Forward support fold is a best way to get rid of cramps in menstruation.
Seated Forward Bend
In this yoga posture, you have to outstretch both of your legs in a forward bending position. Slowly come down and touch your toes without putting a burden on your stomach.
Lie down on a mat in a reclining position and bend your knees to the sides and join the foot base together. You can place a pillow or cushion under your spine to increase the comfort while menstruating.
Asanas To Avoid During Menstruation
All inversion asanas should be avoided in menstruation.
In this asana, the normal flow from the naval center to the cervix gets reversed which is not recommended while menstruating. This asana is useful to awaken the kundalini and in menstruation it affects the natural flow of blood and may lead to some reproductive problems.
Another reason to avoid inversion sauna is that it provokes heavy menstrual bleeding as while doing inversion, the uterus is pulled towards the head and leads to stretching of the ligaments which may cause partial vein collapse and the open arteries can pump more blood.
Bandhas should be avoided as they move the apana upwards instead of down and increases the bodily contractions to more tight that is already tight. In uddiyan bandha,the bodily heat tends to increase which may lead to heavy bleeding.
Other yoga postures like strong backbending postures, twists, arm balances and yoga in standing postures should be avoided as it gives stress to the abdominal and pelvic region. These types of posture need more physical strength which is lacking while menstruating so it should be avoided.
